Elizabeth Mead, LCSW, Certified EMDR Therapist, C-DBT
“Therapy isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we already are.”
- Adapted from Pema Chodron
Elizabeth Mead is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 25+ years of mental health and psychotherapy experience, ranging amongst all age groups & communities. Elizabeth has pursued her own dreams and launched her own, very in-demand, private practice that has been years in the making. Welcome to Inspire Therapy. We’re so happy you’re here. Elizabeth is proud to be able offer you both virtual and/or in-person sessions, while integrating all aspects of EMDR, talk therapy and various Eastern modalities within her practice.
Elizabeth was awarded her Masters of Science in Social Work with a specialization in Contemporary Social Problems from Columbia University in New York. While training, she interned at New York Presbyterian Medical Center, specializing in pediatric oncology and supported families through the death and dying process, medical trauma, and development of coping skills and behaviors. In graduate school, Elizabeth worked at an agency dedicated to helping battered women imprisoned for retaliating against their assailants. This experience solidified the importance of maintaining focused and evidence based clinical practices.
The first several years of her career were spent as a Forensic Social Worker in New York City with a focus on trauma, substance use, anxiety, interpersonal violence and severe and persistent mental illness. Most importantly, Elizabeth had continued to expand her clinical experience and personal practice over the years while working within one of the top Emergency Departments in the country for over 15 years, while also working as an on-call California Certified Sexual Assault Counselor. Prior to opening up her own private practice, Elizabeth worked within a group private practice with a focus on intensive individual and group therapy with adolescents and teens.
These clinically formative years were essential to Elizabeth’s growth in the field, but also stirred up her own anxiety, fears, questions and soul searching. Elizabeth turned to meditation and mindfulness, exploring Tibetan Buddhist philosophies of living and began her love affair with Eastern modalities in both her private and professional life.
She now embraces a love for the power of meditation and mindfulness practices after decades spent in a very demanding career. Elizabeth is proud to specialize in EMDR, Prolonged Grief Therapy, Yoga Therapy, Reiki, Essential Oil Therapy, and Contemplative Care (mindfulness and meditation). The opportunities are endless and each modality is specifically tailored to the individual client based on their needs. Elizabeth is known as intuitive, empathetic, supportive and intelligent in her approach.
One of her favorite quotes that she continues to embrace in her private practice from Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
“Developing compassion and wisdom, and helping those in need is the true meaning of life.”
